Anusara- This style uses the many variations of asana, including standing poses, back bends, forward bends, twists, and hip openers. This class is taught in a very physically descriptive way to bring the body more toward its optimum blue print of alignment. All the while we remember the deeper meaning of the practice, to step into the higher flow of Divine Grace and awaken to an abundance of inner goodness available to each one of us. These classes are for someone who wants to understand the proper way to be in the pose (without forcing the pose). If you've never done this style- you'll want to start with an intro or beginner class. About Anusara Yoga
Vinyasa Basics- Learn the fundamentals of "flowing" using your breath and physical instruction to develop self-awareness, as well as stretch, tone, and strenghthen, with some poses being held longer to encourage deeper openings. The student will explore the different componenents of yoga while releasing tension and anxiety, focusing on sensations, and connecting the body, mind, and spirit. Suitable for all levels as poses will be modified as needed to meet individual needs.
Gentle Yoga- In this class you will move more slowly and physical limitaions and injuries are supported and addressed. This class offers a way for the person who thinks he can't do yoga to have the experience of yoga. For those who have issues in the body like knee, hip, shoulders, neck, or back etc. as well as those who have difficulty sitting on the floor or are simply in alot of pain and want to work therapuetically this class is for you. Consider this class as well if you have difficulty with other styles.
Intro to Yoga- This is the recommended course for the beginner student who has little or no yoga experience. The class teaches the foundation of Anusara (see above description). This class will prepare you for higher level Anusara classes, as well as the other styles offered. Props are widely used in this class, making it easier for students with limited flexibility or other limitations. This is a good place to get started.
***These are 8 week courses and require pre-registration. (active students of Yoga Suite may drop in to either class and anybody can join the class during a running session at a pro-rated rate.)
Basic Hatha- This is probably a most familiar form of yoga. It combines proper breathing with asanas(poses) to bring about a better connection between body, mind, and spirit. This class is excellent for the beginner, as well as the more experience yogi. The poses will be modified to suit the level of the student.
Prenatal Yoga- Yoga Suite offers yoga as a way of developing self-reliance and calmness of mind during pregnancy. This 6 week series of classes gives expectant mothers a safe guide to gentle stretches that can help them adjust to the physical and mental demands of labor, birth, and motherhood.
Vinyasa/Yoga Nidra- During the practice, one masters the "in-between state of wakefulness and sleep, which not only can lead to fun and interesting experiences, but is also profoundly useful regarding one's personal transformation. This class allows your conscience to function on a very deep level of the mind, where you can plant seeds of positive intention and thereafter watch your lifestyle change "on it's own" with no willpower required.
Teen Yoga- A beginner level mixture of postures, meditation and partner exercises that will promote strength in body and mind that is beneficial to the teen. Students gain a sense of well- being while developing their posture, strength, confidence, self-esteem and healthier habits; all of which help alleviate stress and get youth in touch with their minds and bodies.
Children's Yoga- A fun and creative yoga class for children ages 5-10 years old that can be very helpful with their still developing bodies and minds. Using animated poses and interactive games; strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness are energetically promoted. Self esteem, confidence, inner-strength and respect for oneself and each other is instilled and naturally begins to develop.
